An Extra-tasty Tuesday - And You'd Batter Believe It

ILLAWARRA pancake lovers will be letting their belts out an extra hole on Tuesday, all in the name of charity of course.

Hundreds of delicious pancakes will be devoured in Wollongong on February 5, as the Wesley Community Care Centre cooks up a feast outside the Uniting Church on Crown St between 8.30am and 2pm.

Pancake Day co-ordinator, June Mathews, said the pancakes practically sold themselves with a team of volunteers set for a busy day.

"Once you get the barbeque lit up and the smells of the pancakes and maple syrup go wafting through the mall, people start to flock over," she said.

"We find that if we start early we catch people going to the office."

At just $2 per serving, all funds raised from the sale of pancakes will assist the organisation's free meal service, providing between 60-100 homeless and disadvantaged Wollongong residents with a meal six days per week.

Despite various organisations and businesses pitching in to help, Mrs Mathews said there was still one task available for robust volunteers.

"The Wollongong Lions Club lend us a trailer with the barbeque equipment, and a couple of girls from the Body Shop come and help serve," she said.

"All the pancake mixes and maple syrup are donated by the Greens cakemix people.

"But we have to shake them all ourselves so if anyone can stand and shake bottles for us they're more than welcome!"
